Evidence Unit
The Tarpon Springs Police Department Forensics Unit is a critical component of the agency’s Criminal Investigations Division, providing comprehensive crime scene processing and evidence management services. This unit works closely with all divisions across the department, ensuring that evidence is properly collected, preserved, and documented to support successful investigations and prosecutions.

Forensic personnel are responsible for processing a wide range of scenes, including property crimes, crimes against persons, traffic homicide investigations, homicides, fire and arson incidents, and other major cases. Utilizing specialized training and techniques, the unit ensures that all physical evidence is handled with precision and in accordance with best practices.

In addition to scene processing, the Forensics Unit manages the agency’s property and evidence function. This includes the intake, cataloging, storage, and submission of evidence collected by patrol officers and investigators, maintaining strict chain-of-custody standards throughout the process.

The unit frequently collaborates with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Unit, particularly during large-scale or complex investigations, and routinely works alongside local, state, and federal partners. Through professionalism, attention to detail, and strong interagency cooperation, the Forensics Unit plays a vital role in advancing investigations and ensuring the integrity of the criminal justice process.
