The Tarpon Springs Police Department Dive Unit is a highly trained specialty team dedicated to responding to underwater emergencies and incidents throughout the City of Tarpon Springs. Composed of approximately eight sworn personnel serving in a secondary assignment, the unit is equipped and prepared to operate in challenging aquatic environments to support both public safety and investigative needs.

Dive Team members conduct a wide range of missions, including search and rescue operations, recovery of evidence, and other critical underwater tasks. Their work often involves complex conditions such as limited or zero visibility, requiring precision, coordination, and advanced skill.

To maintain a high level of readiness, the team trains year-round in both controlled indoor settings and open water environments. This ongoing training ensures proficiency in underwater navigation, zero-visibility diving, and the use of specialized equipment. Members are experienced in operating positive pressure full-face masks, dry suits, lift bags, underwater video and still cameras, and search line systems.

Through their dedication and specialized capabilities, the Dive Unit plays a vital role in supporting investigations, marine unit, recovering critical evidence, and safeguarding the community in and around the city’s waterways.
