Guardian Program
The Tarpon Springs Police Department is proud to offer the Reverse 911 Guardian Program. The Reverse 911 system is a state of the art computerized telephone calling system used by the Police Department to provide residents a free service which can automatically check on their well-being on a regular basis. There is no charge to participate in this program and you may have their name removed from the program at any time they wish.
Who Qualifies For The Program?
Any Resident Of The City Of Tarpon Springs Who Is Over The Age Of 65 And Lives Alone.
Any Resident Of The City Of Tarpon Springs Who Is Over The Age Of 65 And Lives With A Mentally Or Physically Challenged Person
Any Resident Of The City Of Tarpon Springs Who Is Physically Disabled And Requires Daily Contact To Ensure Their Well Being
The Participant Of The Program Must Have The Ability To Enter A Personal Identification Number By Pressing The Corresponding Numbers On A Phone Keypad.
How Do I Sign Up For The Guardian Program?
It is very easy to sign up for the program. You need to provide the Police Department with
information about your doctor, what type of medical problem/conditions you may have, the name of a neighbor that can be contacted in the event you cannot be reached, emergency contact information and the days and times that you want to be contacted.
When Will The Participant Be Contacted?
The Guardian Program can be set to contact you on the days and times that you wish. For example, if someone comes to your home on a regular
basis, such as a home health care person, the Guardian System would only contact you on the days that the home health care person does not come to your home. The Guardian Program calling schedule is very flexible and can accommodate your personal needs.
How Does The Guardian Program Work?
Residents must first complete an application and qualify for the program. A customized calling schedule will be set up with each individual that participates. According to the pre-determined calling schedule, the Guardian Program places a call to the participants home telephone. When the Resident answers their phone and recognizes the call as a guardian call, the resident must enter personal ID number by pressing the corresponding numbers on the telephone to verify they are OK. If there is no response, the Police dispatcher will attempt to contact the resident. If the resident does not answer the phone, the dispatcher will contact the designated neighbor. If that fails, an officer will be sent to the resident’s home to the resident’s home.
I Want To Participate, Where Do I Start?
Complete the application, and mail it to, or drop off at the Police station at 444 S. Huey Ave., Tarpon Springs, Fl., 34689, Attn: Crime Prevention Unit. A representative of the Crime Prevention Unit will contact you to verify that you qualify for the program. The next step is to set up a personalized calling schedule to meet your needs. Participants in the Guardian Program will have to sign a Release/Disclaimer also.
What If I’m Away On Vacation?
If you are going to be away from home, you can arrange in advance to have your calls temporarily suspended. When you return home, let us know that you’re back, and we will start the calling again.
Calls can also be suspended while you have guests staying at your house.
